Hawai’i / Kaua’i November 2025
My first time visiting Hawai’i, most of it on Kaua’i. One of the most beautiful, interesting and contradictory places I’ve ever been. It reminded me of the year I spent in New Zealand in 1993: the lushness and microclimates, dramatic landscapes, history and post-colonial politics, bilingualism, etc.
On my last day in Kaua’i I went on a helicopter tour of the island. It was overwhelmingly beautiful and somewhat surreal (in part because it was my first time in a helicopter). Below is a link to videos of that trip as captured by cameras on the landing skid. They’re much more eye popping and intense than the few photos I took and included here.
